Allegan Public Schools seeks a Student Support Paraprofessional for Allegan High School to assist students with documented support plans, mobility, personal care, and classroom participation. You will promote independence, dignity, and inclusion while safeguarding student privacy.
The role requires 60+ college credits or a Parapro score, CPI training after hiring, and prior childcare experience. Work is 6.5 hours daily, Monday through Friday, during student days only.
Student Support Paraprofessional provides individualized assistance to students with documented support plans who require adult assistance to access the educational environment safely and successfully. The paraprofessional assists students with mobility, personal care needs, classroom participation, and academic access while promoting independence, dignity, and inclusion within the school setting.
High School diploma or equivalent is required and applicants MUST be "Highly Qualified" as required under NCLB – this requires 60 or more college credits or a passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment. Completion of CPI training after hire is required. Previous experience in childcare preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items of 50 lbs., such as pushing children on a bike, in a wheelchair, or moving/rearranging furniture. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Position starts 2026-2027 School year, 6.5 hrs/day, Monday-Friday, Student days only.
