Job summary

HTU is seeking a full-time School Support Assistant to aid students with technology and learning programs, support teachers with academic needs, and work with small groups. The role includes safety training, collaboration with staff and parents, and maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

The position emphasizes one-on-one student support, documentation, and adherence to IEP/504 accommodations, with a focus on a respectful, confidential educational setting.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, reach, sit, and move quickly to respond to student needs.
  • Capability to restrain a student if necessary for safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with technology and computer-based learning programs as directed.
  • Support students and teachers with academic requirements and grade-appropriate work.
  • Work with small groups of students and assist with small group instruction.
  • Participate in necessary training to meet student assignment needs.
  • Follow all safety plans, rules, and guidelines of the school.
  • Provide one-to-one support to students regarding academics, social skills, and character education.
  • Assist teachers in lesson assessments and help students with projects and assignments.
  • Act as a positive role model and maintain a welcoming attitude to foster a positive educational environment.
  • Complete required training, including Safe Schools training.
  • Collaborate with administrators, staff, and parents cooperatively.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation.
  • Support classroom teachers with instructional activities, small-group work, and one-on-one student support.
  • Assist students in completing assignments and accessing accommodations/modifications outlined in IEPs, 504 plans, or instructional support plans.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, breaks, and non-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Support implementation of PBIS and other school-wide behavior systems.
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Provide academic and behavioral data collection and documentation as requested.
  • Support students with special needs, including physical, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the educational mission of the school.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting hourly rate of $20.00 for this full-time non-exempt position, with factors such as geography, skills, education, and experience affecting pay.
