Qualifications

• Must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent and must meet one of the additional requirements below.
• Pass the paraprofessional assessment test with a score of 450 or higher.
• Associate degree or higher (official transcripts are required).
• 48 hours of college with six hours of Math and nine hours of English (official transcripts are required).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and parents.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students.
• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk.
• The employee is required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch.
• The employee must be able to assist in lifting and positioning students.

Responsibilities

• Performs non-complex and complex health procedures, implements Individual Health Plans as applicable, attends necessary health training as prescribed by board policy and state law.
• Assist and implement the instructional plan as developed with the classroom teacher as it pertains to the Core Curriculum.
• Monitors and adjusts the instructional plan based on student needs.
• Implements strategies and accommodations as developed with the classroom teacher as it pertains to the student’s Individual Education Program.
• Maintains a log as documentation of supporting students within the inclusive, resource and self-contained classrooms as well as moderate and severe self-contained classrooms.
• Maintains medical log/data as documentation of required health procedures per the student’s Individual Education Program.
• Follows a set daily schedule providing instructional support to students with disabilities within the inclusive, resource and self-contained classrooms as well as moderate/severe self-contained classrooms.
• Assists in the routine supervision of study areas, cafeterias, halls, playgrounds, instructional field trips and bus loading areas.
• Performs routine sanitation duties to ensure a clean/sterile environment.
• Implements strategies that reinforce positive student behavior.
• Interaction with student misbehavior shall be appropriate and respectful.
• Attend workshops and trainings as required by the district.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information and progress as it relates to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
