Job Summary and Qualifications

The Paramedic PRN assists licensed nurses with initial patient assessments, triage, monitoring for arrhythmias, recording inputs and outputs, hanging IV fluids, and assisting physicians with procedures such as central line insertions, lumbar punctures, defibrillation, cardioversion, chest tubes, thoracentesis, arterial lines, and suturing.

• Insert oral/nasal airways, connect patients to oxygen, and monitor.
• Perform 12-lead EKGs.
• Initiate and discontinue IVs, insert Foley catheters.
• Perform CPR, finger stick glucose monitoring, oral suctioning.

Procedures approved by EMS Medical Director may include:

• Needle decompression, defibrillation, cardioversion, pacing, intubation, intraosseous lines, suctioning, administering fleet enemas, external jugular IVs.

Qualifications Needed:

• Completion of a Paramedic training program, with Virginia EMS EMT-Paramedic and ACLS certifications.
• Previous ER or comparable experience.
• PALS certification; PHTLS or BTLS preferred.
• 3+ years field experience as a certified EMT-Paramedic preferred.
