The Paramedic's primary responsibility is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients accessing the emergency medical system. The Paramedic must possess the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Through recognized standards of care, continued education, system-developed standard operating guidelines, and compliance with medically sound policies and procedures, the Paramedic must be able to properly assess the scene, accurately interrogate and assess the patient, and deliver the required standard of professional care. The Paramedic plays a pivotal role in providing comfort, aid, and all levels of life support to patients requiring pre-hospital care. No two patients are alike, and some clinical presentations may not require life-saving interventions. It is the duty of the Paramedic to deploy compassion and empathy during all perceived emergencies and to provide thorough and complete care.
Receives occasional instruction from supervisors and provides occasional instruction to EMT crew members.
Requires physical strength, dexterity, and the ability to operate in adverse environments. Must meet specific activity frequencies and physical demands listed, such as standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and handling equipment. Must respond quickly and communicate effectively under stress, maintain professionalism, and work independently with sound judgment.
High school diploma or GED required; college preferred. Valid Pennsylvania State Paramedic certification, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other specified training required. Experience as a field EMS provider preferred. Must hold a valid PA Driver License and clearances as specified.
