The Opportunity

Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administers and supervises approved immunizations (excluding red blood cell immunizations). Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatments in accordance with licensure or certification.

The Role

• Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
• Conduct confidential and effective interviews to assess donor suitability.
• Respond to medically related questions with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician.
• Perform medical history reviews and health assessments.
• Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
• Explain informed consent, including procedures, hazards, and rights.
• Handle medical emergencies per SOPs; check emergency kits regularly.
• Review test results and determine continued donor suitability.
• Assess signs and symptoms that may affect donation ability.
• Oversee donor immunization programs and review antibody titer results.
• Record donor data accurately in the electronic system.
• Maintain a clean work environment and ensure supplies are available.
• Follow all safety and health policies, promoting safety.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information.
• May be cross-trained or bilingual as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

Education

• Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
• Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified accordingly.

Experience

• At least 1 year in a healthcare setting.
• Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
• Ability to perform physical assessments and instruct donors and staff.

Working Conditions

• Decision-making impact on work unit.
• Ability to follow instructions and observe environment.
• Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, bloodborne pathogens.
• Use of PPE required; overtime may be necessary.
