Job Description Summary
Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administers and supervises approved immunizations (excluding red blood cell immunizations). Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatments, in accordance with licensure or certification.
Job Responsibilities
- Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
- Conduct confidential interviews to assess donor suitability.
- Respond to medically related questions from staff, including donor suitability, in conjunction with the Center Medical Director or Physician.
- Perform medical history reviews and health assessments; evaluate screening and lab results.
- Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results; refer for follow-up.
- Explain informed consent, including procedures, hazards, and immunization details; obtain signatures.
- Handle medical emergencies per SOPs; check emergency kits regularly.
- Review test results for continued donor suitability and manage approvals and grace periods.
- Assess signs and symptoms that may affect donation ability.
- Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs.
- Oversee donor immunization programs and review antibody titer results.
- Accurately record donor data in electronic systems.
- Maintain a clean environment and ensure supplies are available.
- Follow HSE and OSHA policies; promote safety; conduct routine audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Cross-train in other areas as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
- Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified accordingly.
- Minimum one year of healthcare experience.
- Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
- Ability to perform physical assessments and instruct donors and staff.
Working Conditions
- Decision-making with moderate impact.
- Ability to follow instructions and observe equipment and customers.
- Standing and walking frequently; manual dexterity required.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Exposure to hazards, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
- Wearing PPE as required; overtime may be necessary.
