Job summary

The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a Paramedic I. This role provides Basic and Advanced Life Support and uses emergency medical techniques for patients in need.

Responsibilities include operating an assigned ambulance, ongoing education, and coordinating with FVFD. Requires EMTP/LP, ITLS, ACLS, PALS, and BLS, plus a valid Texas Driver's License and 1 year EMS experience.

Qualifications

• Possession of a Texas EMTP or LP certification.
• ITLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• High School Diploma or GED with some college.
• At least 1 year of paramedic EMS (911 system) experience.
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 within 6 months.
• Recertification before the current certification period ends.

Responsibilities

• Render pre-hospital emergency care per established protocols.
• Perform triage and emergency medical treatments at BLS/ALS levels.
• Operate and maintain ambulance and station; document daily activities.
• Drive ambulance to scenes and transport to hospitals.
• Lead public CPR and first aid trainings; engage in community health education.
• Act as EMS student preceptor and coordinate with agencies as needed.
• Maintain radio communications and incident records.

Job description

The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a Paramedic I. This position will render Basic and Advanced Life support and emergency medical techniques to those in need of assistance; to operate and maintain assigned ambulance and station; to participate in continuing education and training relative to medical and industry advancements.

Work Performed:

• Render pre-hospital emergency care according to established medical protocols.
• Perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments at the Basic and Advanced Life support level. Provide continuing care and treatment while enroute to an emergency medical facility; monitor and report changes in patient condition.
• Under medical direction and following prescribed standing orders perform a variety of invasive and non-invasive therapies including but not limited to assessment and evaluation of the ill and injured, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation, administration of drugs, agents and solutions, intubation and pulmonary ventilation, drawing of blood samples for analysis, application of dressing and bandages, control of shock, and immobilization of fractures, and all other skills contained within the Department of Transportation manual of knowledge objectives for Paramedics.
• Drive the ambulance to emergency scenes, transport accident victims and medical patients to hospitals.
• Assist and coordinate with Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) and other emergency service agencies in rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations.
• Perform a variety of emergency medical treatment services at the basic and advanced life support levels.
• Employ safe lifting and moving techniques. Maintain ambulance vehicle, equipment and station.
• Lead and participate in training classes for the public on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), standard first aid and emergency medical techniques. Participate in public health education and screening.
• Act as a preceptor for EMS students.
• Handle radio communications during emergency and non-emergency situations professionally.
• Keep records and logs on daily activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Possession of a Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMTP) certification or Licensed Paramedic (LP)
• ITLS - Trauma Life Support certificate (ITLS)
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
• AHA Pediatric Life Support Certification (PALS)
• A valid Texas Drivers License
• American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification
• High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized college level.
• A minimum of One (1) year or experience as paramedic in a 911 system
• Possess or acquire within Six (6) months: NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800
• Must qualify and be recertified prior to the end of the TDSHS certification period to remain employed.

Continuing Education:

• Must maintain yearly CE hours within current TDSHS guidelines.
• Must exercise professional initiative to stay current with new drugs and treatment procedure guidelines.
• Must maintain the ability to carry out standing orders within the Medical Director's discretion.

This job will require 24-hour availability during emergency events.
