Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Paramedic for the Emergency Department at NHRMC New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. This part-time, night shift position offers a shift differential and requires high standards of clinical care.

You will work with an RN and physician led team to deliver patient-centered care, document thoroughly, and help with mobility and safety across the patient journey. 2+ years in ED/CCT are required, with state-specified training within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Paramedic certification or degree is required.
• Current driver’s license for Critical Care Transport Departments.
• 2 years ED/CCT experience; 3 years for Event Medicine; state curricula within 3 months.
• Excellent customer service, clear verbal and written communication, and strong teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality, patient centered care through clinical expertise.

What We Offer

The Paramedic serves as a member of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with other team members to provide care that promotes optimal health. The paramedic utilizes best scientific evidence, protocols, and compassion to assist the care of the patient during their health journey. The Paramedic accepts accountability for provision of care, as part of the RN and physician led team, in accordance with the current policies, protocols and procedures.

• Schedule: 7:00pm - 7:00am, Night Shift, Part time (Shift Differential)
• Department: Emergency Room

What You'll Do

• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care by using your clinical experience to anticipate needs, support daily activities, and promote comfort and dignity throughout each patient’s stay.
• Serve as a trusted partner to nurses and providers, using your seasoned judgment to share meaningful observations, support care plans, and help the team stay aligned in a fast‑paced environment.
• Guide safe mobility and recovery efforts, drawing on your expertise to assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall‑prevention practices that keep patients progressing safely.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation of vitals and patient status, contributing reliable information that strengthens communication and supports excellent clinical decision‑making.
• Foster a calm, supportive environment for patients and families, using your experience to offer reassurance, set expectations, and help others feel grounded during challenging moments.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: 2 years required for ED and CCT, required. 3 years required for Event Medicine, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments, required. Current driver's license in appropriate state for Critical Care Transport Departments, required.
• Licensure/Certification: Paramedic Certification or Degree, required. National Registry for Critical Care Transport or an educational agreement to obtain National Registry within 18 months of hire, required.
• Additional Skills (required): Must have ability to assess and/or interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age, as well as health and developmental needs. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written documentation. Excellent customer service skills. Possesses the ability to prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Administer and evaluate medication therapies, performs patient transfers and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments. Ability to lift and carry various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, etc. Ability to provide routine care such as start IV's, perform dressing changes, etc. to patients in a timely manner. Ability to perform in critical situations, including administering CPR.
