Job summary

Banner University Medical Center Main Campus in Tucson, AZ, is seeking an Emergency Department Paramedic for the day shift (7:00 AM–7:30 PM). This full‑time position on a rotating schedule includes weekend and holiday duties with a $1/hour weekend differential and an 18% night differential where applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
• Current Paramedic certification or license in the state of practice; maintain BLS and ACLS; PALS if pediatric population.
• 2–4 years of relevant work experience or 12–18 months in an educational program.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate acuity level of patients and match care needs to resources.
• Perform basic patient care within scope of training, including positioning, transportation, phlebotomy, ECGs, spinal precautions, medication administration or monitoring as ordered, and initiation or adjustment of fluids.
• Perform cardiovascular monitoring and management within scope of training.
• Manage airway including oxygen administration, tracheal suctioning, ventilation assistance, positioning, end-tidal CO₂ and pulse-ox monitoring.
• Actively participate in resuscitation of critical patients and observe diagnostic phase of treatment.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on competency and training.
• Recognize changes in patient status and notify charge or primary nurse and physician; inform staff of patient status.
• Document assessments and reassessments within unit guidelines; note outcomes and responses to interventions.
• Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report/clarify information.

The Banner UMC Main Campus Emergency Department has the family feel of a small‑town ER while offering the complexity of a large‑city hospital. This position is for a FULL‑TIME Emergency Department Paramedic on the DAY Shift. Hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, requiring three shifts per week, which may include weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. The role provides self‑scheduling tools and a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential plus an 18% Night Shift Differential where applicable.

CORE FUNCTIONS

• Evaluate acuity level of patients and ensure appropriate matching of patient care needs to unit and hospital resources.
• Perform basic patient care within scope of training, including positioning, transportation, phlebotomy, ECGs, maintenance of spinal precautions, medication administration or monitoring as ordered by a physician, and initiation or adjustment of fluid administration.
• Perform cardiovascular monitoring and management within scope of training.
• Perform airway management within scope of training and state guidelines, including oxygen administration, tracheal suctioning, ventilation assistance, positioning, end‑tidal CO₂ and pulse‑ox monitoring.
• Actively participate in the resuscitation of critical patients as assigned and observe and monitor patients through the diagnostic phase of treatment.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on competency and training.
• Recognize changes in patient status that require notification of charge or primary nurse and physician, and keep staff informed of the patient status and current activities.
• Document assessment and reassessments within unit guidelines on appropriate documentation forms, including patient progress toward outcomes and responses to interventions/therapeutic modalities.
• Interact with all levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report and clarify information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
• Current and valid Paramedic certification or license in the state of practice and maintenance thereafter; current BLS and ACLS certification required. PALS required if working with pediatric population.
• Moderate experience, typically 2‑4 years of relevant work experience or 12‑18 months in an educational program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• FP‑C or CCT‑P Certification if working in ICU, Burn or CVCU.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
