Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, AZ is seeking an Emergency Department Tech Paramedic to support fast-paced ED operations and patient care. This full-time mid-shift role runs 12p-12a, three shifts per week, includes weekends and holiday rotations.

You will perform phlebotomy, ECGs, IV starts, airway management, medication administration under physician orders, and assist with resuscitations, while delivering great customer service and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Paramedic certification/licence required and maintained.
  • BLS and ACLS certification current; PALS if ED or pediatric population.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient status and coordinate with ED team to match care with resources.
  • Perform phlebotomy, ECGs, IV access, and monitor/administration of medications under physician orders.
  • Assist with airway management and resuscitation in critical situations.
  • Document patient assessments and progress in unit records per guidelines.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians and support staff to ensure safe, timely care.

The Emergency Department (ED) primarily cares for adults in need of emergency services. Pediatrics are also treated and either discharged home or transferred to an accepting pediatric center. The ED consists of 42 licensed beds and utilizes robust throughput measures to expedite care while focusing on providing an exceptional patient experience. Annually, the ED treats over 48,000 patients and is also a Level 4 Trauma Center. Our Banner Boswell ED team is highly focused on delivering state of the art Stroke, Cardiac, and Pediatric Care. We maintain NIHSS Stroke Gold Elite Plus, Chest Pain and Pediatric Preparedness accreditations. Our multidisciplinary team consists of Nurse Managers, Registered Nurses, ED Technicians, Case Management, Social Work, Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Pharmacy who are all dedicated to providing the highest quality of care possible to our patients.As the Emergency Department Tech Paramedic you will have the qualifications necessary to perform the responsibilities of this opportunity in a fast-paced environment. This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional paramedic practice. This position is accountable for the quality of patient services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.CORE FUNCTIONS1. Evaluates acuity level of patients and insures appropriate matching of patients care needs to unit and hospital resources. Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their specific needs.2. Performs basic patient care appropriately within scope of training: positioning, transportation, phlebotomy, ECGs, maintenance of spinal precautions. Administers or monitors medications when indicated and as ordered by a physician. Such medications are limited to those approved for administration and/or monitoring by a paramedic in the State of practice. Assists patient in transfer using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques. Starts peripheral intravenous lines, including external jugular lines, initiates infusion, and maintains and adjusts fluid administration per physician order.3. Performs cardio-vascular monitoring and management within scope of training.4. Performs airway management within scope of training and within state guidelines to include oxygen administration, tracheal suctioning, assisting with ventilation, positioning, end-tidal CO2 and pulse-ox monitoring.5. Actively participates in the resuscitation of critical patients as assigned. Observes and monitors patients through the diagnostic phase of treatment.6. Performs other duties as assigned based on competency and training.7. Recognizes changes in patient status that requires notification of charge or primary nurse and physician. Keeps charge or primary nurse informed of patient status and current activities. Alerts responsible physician to changes in patient status.8. Documents assessment and reassessments within unit guidelines on appropriate documentation forms. Documents the incorporation of assessment findings and appropriate standards statement to support desired Patient Outcomes. Documents patient progress toward outcomes and responses to interventions/therapeutic modalities example: Response to pain medication. Documents the discharge plan of care and services consulted during patient visit.9. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.Must possess a current and valid Paramedic certification or license within the state of practice and maintenance thereafter. Current BLS and ACLS certification is required. PALS is required if working in the Emergency Department or with Pediatric population.
