Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent years of experience in education or a related field.
  • Current Indiana EMT-P certification required; Primary Instructor, PHTLS, and AMLS Instructor certifications preferred.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS through the AHA certification required; other ALS certifications may be required per unit.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant EMS/trauma experience; 4+ years prehospital, air medical, or ED experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of EMS systems/operations and teaching, training facilitation, and presentation techniques.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and training resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to travel within Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining RQI training equipment and computers at system locations, including device functionality.
  • Running Oracle Learn enrollment reports and supporting back-end program logistics for the RQI platform.
  • Coaching and instructing CPR classes as a certified CPR instructor across IU Health locations.
  • Serving as a bridge between the RQI program and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Traveling regularly to system locations across Indiana for equipment maintenance.
  • Providing education for Emergency Response and EMS Education programs and other offerings.
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Applying adult education principles to create safe, effective learning environments.
  • Overseeing program participants, diagnosing learner needs, and evaluating outcomes.

Paramedic Educator

We are seeking a clinically seasoned, mission driven, and team oriented paramedic professional to join IU Health's Emergency Response Education department as a part time Paramedic Educator. In this position, you will focus on maintaining RQI training equipment and computers across IU Health locations system wide, running Oracle Learn enrollment reports, and coaching and instructing CPR classes as a certified instructor. The team is a group of diverse clinical experts who coach and mentor each other, bring genuine passion to the work, and operate with honesty, flexibility, and a shared commitment to saving lives across the IU Health system.

Reports to: Manager, Emergency Response Education

Direct reports: None

Shift: Part Time, Monday – Friday

Location: Indianapolis, IN (travel involved)

The Scope:

This role supports the RQI pillar of Emergency Response Education across the IU Health system, including:

  • Maintaining RQI training equipment and computers at system locations, including device functionality and connectivity
  • Running Oracle Learn enrollment reports and supporting back-end program logistics for the RQI platform
  • Coaching and instructing CPR classes as a certified CPR instructor across assigned IU Health locations
  • Serving as a bridge between the RQI program and Quality Improvement initiatives across the department
  • Traveling regularly to system locations for equipment maintenance runs spanning Paoli to Fort Wayne
  • Providing education for Emergency Response and EMS Education programs and other educational offerings by facilitating learning opportunities for a variety of learners
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional materials for educational offerings
  • Applying adult education principles and methodology to create safe and effective learning environments
  • Providing oversight of program participants, diagnosing learner needs, identifying and implementing solutions, and evaluating outcomes
Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for this position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent years of experience in education or a related field.
  • Current Indiana EMT-P certification required; Primary Instructor, PHTLS, and AMLS Instructor certifications preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the AHA required; other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit or department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required, including 2 or more years of EMS and trauma related experience or equivalent; 4 or more years of prehospital, air medical, or emergency department experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of EMS systems and operations required.
  • Knowledge of teaching, training facilitation, and presentation techniques required.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum and training resources required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and applications required.
  • Ability to travel within the state of Indiana required; this role involves regular travel to system locations across the state.
