Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Promote and restore patient’s health by collaborating with physicians and specialty team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families. Perform all designated tasks delegated by RN/Physician. Accountable for all patient care he/she provides.
Essential Duties
This job description covers the minimum essential duties assigned regularly. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership reserves the right to modify duties as needed.
- Assess patient condition in collaboration with the RN, report pertinent data, and initiate appropriate care according to evidence-based policies and guidelines.
- Develop and implement an appropriate nursing care plan with the RN, including patient/family teaching.
- Identify life-threatening situations, act calmly and rapidly during emergencies, and provide necessary resources for ED or trauma teams.
- Adhere to Sparrow Health System's ED protocols for vital signs, oxygen therapies, ECG monitoring, and other procedures.
- Assist in procedures, specimen collection, and transportation as per protocols.
- Perform diagnostic procedures and document all patient care and responses appropriately.
- Provide BCLS, including CPR, and ensure the trauma area is ready for critical situations.
- Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and training.
- Ensure equipment is operational and the environment is safe.
- Perform post-mortem care and transport.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks with professionalism and compassion.
- Perform IV starts, manage IV fluids, and operate cardiac monitors/defibrillators as directed.
- Respond to emergency codes like “Code Blue” and “SRRT” following ACLS guidelines.
Job Requirements
- Valid Paramedic license in Michigan
- BCLS, ACLS, PALS certifications
- Minimum 1 year of field experience as a Paramedic; ED or critical care experience preferred
- High School Diploma; Associate degree preferred
Skills and Knowledge
- Venous access, EKG, Point of Care Testing competency
- Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team
- Ability to provide age-appropriate care based on comprehensive knowledge and skills
