Job summary

City of Livonia, MI is seeking Paramedic Cadets to perform emergency medical services and to attend a Michigan BFS Fire Academy to become Firefighter II within one year of hire. You will participate in fire suppression, rescue, and EMS operations while meeting the department’s SOPs. Candidates must meet eligibility, licensure, and CPAT requirements.

Applicants should be U.S. citizens or work-authorized, have a high school diploma or GED (preference for Fire Science/EMS degrees), hold a paramedic

Qualifications

• Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien with the right to work in the United States.
• Have a high school diploma or valid equivalency certificate; preference for Fire Science/EMS degrees.
• Hold a current Michigan Paramedic License or National Registry Paramedic with eligibility to be licensed in Michigan.
• Possess CPAT or equivalent agility test within 12 months prior to application.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
• Submit original degrees/transcripts, licenses, and certifications by the closing date.

Responsibilities

• Physically lift/move patients, equipment, hose lines and other barriers during EMS/fire operations.
• Enter burning buildings with hose-lines, operate nozzles, and extinguish fires as directed.
• Provide direct patient care on EMS calls in line with SOPs and protocols.
• Ventilate buildings and extinguish fires using extinguishers and related equipment.
• Rescue persons, administer life support, and transport patients as needed.
• Perform salvage operations, cleaning, and basic station housekeeping.
• Attend in-service training to learn firefighting strategies, equipment operation, and medical aid.
• Inspect and maintain apparatus, prepare reports on maintenance and usage.
• Respond to fire/rescue calls and perform suppression, rescue, and rehabilitation.
