Job Summary

This position provides emergency care at the scene of an accident or other emergency. Responsibilities include preparation for response, response, care delivery, transportation, documentation, and post-response duties. Attends to patients during transport on non-emergency calls, ensuring patient safety en route. Performs initial scene and patient assessments, including history taking and physical exams. Recognizes patients needing immediate attention and initiates emergency life-saving treatments such as CPR, oxygen therapy, intubation, IV insertion, and medication administration as per physician orders or ACLS protocols. Participates in community and safety programs as assigned, and performs other duties as needed.

• Teamwork: Collaborate with EMTs or other paramedics to solve problems and achieve common goals, respecting team input.
• Quality/Safety: Follow safety policies and procedures, acting safely at accident scenes and in various environments.
• Job Knowledge: Operate within the scope of practice for a Paramedic, seeking medical direction when outside scope.
• Financial Stewardship: Maintain supplies and equipment, ensure vehicle maintenance, and perform preventative checks.
• Problem Solving: Analyze problems under pressure, identify issues, and determine appropriate patient care actions.

Minimum Education and Certification Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a paramedic program.

• Certifications required upon hire:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor
• Paramedic certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Instructor or Provisional
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Instructor or Provisional

Experience and Skills

Minimum 1 year as an Emergency Medical Technician preferred. Skills include critical thinking, customer service, assessment, judgment, active learning, problem-solving, clear communication, time management, and report writing.
