Incumbents in this position respond to calls for emergency medical assistance and provide advanced medical care to the sick and injured.Essential Functions and Responsibilities ?Individuals hired in this position must possess and maintain a Paramedic License issued by the State of Missouri ?Duties of this position will involve the care and treatment of sick and injured persons, including: providing care and transportation of the sick and injured, consistent with the national performance standards of Paramedics documentation of activities and completion of appropriate forms providing guidance to the Emergency Medical Technician assigned to the medical unit. ?Drive, fuel, inspect and clean the ambulance, reporting maintenance for the ambulance and equipment used in pre-hospital care orders and maintains supplies and medications performs other duties as assigned. ?Responds to calls for emergency medical care. ?Administers patient medication and starts intravenous line. ?Assesses patient vital signs, interprets EKGs, administers CPR and operates defibrillator machine. ?Assists with victim extrications and access as needed. ?Documents activities and completes appropriate forms. ?Inspects and cleans ambulance. ?Fuels ambulance, checks fluid levels and fills, as needed, monitors operating condition and reports need for maintenance and repair.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ?Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, conclude and appraise. ?Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide paraprofessional level medical care, such as CPR, injury stabilization, starting intravenous line, operating defibrillator machine. ?Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as ambulance, fire extinguisher, flashlight, heart monitor, blood pressure cuff, glucometer, oxygen tank regulator, ventilation and suction equipment, cervical collar, stretchers, backboard and EKG machine, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions. ?Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as performance evaluations, training materials, medical documentation, insurance forms, ambulance run reports, check off lists, maps, street guides, technical operating manuals, statutes, procedures, guidelines and non-routine correspondence. ?Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages and decimals. ?Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems. ?Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in critical and/or unexpected situations involving moderate risk to the organization. ?Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic/poisonous agents, potential violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. ?Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift, push and pull over one hundred (100) pounds to move the sick and injured, extricating accident victims from wreckage.
