Job summary

Aultman Hospital is seeking a Paramedic to support the RN by starting IVs, drawing blood, and transporting patients across the facility. The role includes maintaining a safe, clean environment and assisting with patient care under RN guidance.

The candidate will perform EKGs, IV insertions, lab draws, and help apply DME while adhering to Aultman policies and procedures. This position requires strong teamwork and communication under pressure.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate of an approved paramedic program.
  • EMT-P license in the state of Ohio is required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS with RQI training are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists RN by performing IV starts and obtaining blood specimens as directed and per procedures.
  • Collects specimens and ensures safe transport to the laboratory or designated area.
  • Performs EKGs and IV insertions/removal under supervision.
  • Preps and stocks equipment and supplies and maintains clean work areas.
  • Transports patients and provides monitoring as directed by RN or ER physician.
  • Administers medications per scope of practice and Aultman policy.

Job description

Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Paramedic is to assist the RN by proactively performing IV start and obtaining blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analysis, assuring expeditious and safe delivery of all lab specimens, stocking departmental supplies, assisting with selected patient care under the direction of an RN, helping maintain a clean work environment, and transporting patients to various areas of the facility.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of approved paramedic program.
  • EMT-P license in the state of Ohio.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required

Responsibilities & Expectations
  • Supports other direct caregivers as needed, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Emergency Room Physician.
  • Cleans equipment/utility room and stocks rooms.
  • Collects specimens and obtains blood glucose according to established procedures and per physician orders and policy. Arranges for transport of specimens to laboratory as appropriate.
  • Performs EKGs, insert IVs, perform ultrasound guided IV insertions.
  • Places patient on monitor telemetry leads.
  • Transports patients to floor with appropriate monitoring.
  • Perform cardioversion and synchronized cardioversion.
  • Administer medications per scope of practice and Aultman policy.
Working Conditions
  • Working hours vary according to departmental needs.
  • Works under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Lunch periods will be assigned by the Charge RN.
  • Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks.
