Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in reviewing case materials, analyzing legal decisions, and providing legal references. May review work of Legal Clerk/Paralegal II.
- Examine and evaluate new and complex cases based on facts and standards.
- Help determine probable cause by reviewing investigative reports, identifying evidence needs, and advising attorneys on case strengths and weaknesses.
- Conduct legal research using various tools, databases, and resources; interview law enforcement officers regarding cases.
- Support pretrial preparations, including organizing discovery, managing witnesses, and preparing summaries.
- Assist in legal settlement processes and prepare related documents.
- Draft legal pleadings, motions, and proposed orders.
- Manage files, documents, and exhibits systematically.
- Summarize depositions, testimonies, and legal proceedings to aid attorneys.
- Use databases and software to generate reports, charts, and exhibits for trial.
- Provide training to team members as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Paralegal Certificate with at least one year of experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with three years of paralegal experience.
- One year of automated litigation support experience and familiarity with legal technology.
- Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies, procedures, and trial experience preferred.
- Strong legal research and analysis skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication, including legal writing.
- Organizational and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal databases.
- Commitment to customer service and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work professionally under pressure and in a team environment.
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a background investigation of 7 or 10 years.
