Job summary

Sidley Austin LLP is seeking a senior Immigration Paralegal to support complex business immigration matters from start to finish. You will manage nonimmigrant petitions (H-1B, H-3, TN, E, J-1, L-1, O-1) and oversee immigrant filings (PERM, I-140, EB-1), while coordinating with clients, foreign nationals and internal counsel.

You will mentor junior staff, handle RFEs, research using government and immigration tools, and ensure confidentiality and accuracy under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of Business Immigration experience.
  • BA/BS with strong academic credentials required.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clients and families to provide comprehensive immigration service through the entire application process.
  • Prepare, manage and monitor business-based nonimmigrant petitions (H-1B, H-3, TN, E, J-1, L-1, O-1).
  • Oversee immigrant matters from initiation through approval (PERM, I-140, EB-1).
  • Respond to RFEs and assist with visa applications with U.S. consular offices abroad.
  • Manage case load using online case management system and reporting.
  • Mentor and delegate work to junior Paralegals and Project Assistants.

Job description

This is a senior level position, responsible for a variety of Immigration Paralegal and case management responsibilities. This position will require overtime.Duties and Responsibilities:Work closely with clients, their employees and families to provide comprehensive immigration service through the entire application process, including responses to applications, requests for evidence, interviews and compliancePrepare, manage and monitor a wide variety of business-based nonimmigrant petitions including H-1B, H-3, TN, E, J-1, L-1 and O-1Oversee a variety of business based immigrant matters from initiation through approval including PERM Labor Certification, I-140, EB-1, etc.Respond to RFEsAssist with application and obtaining work visas with U.S. consular offices abroadCompile and maintain records of immigration forms, other documentation and records of activity on behalf of corporate clients’ employeesActively manage case load using online case management system and reportingServe as key contact with client and foreign nationals; direct and manage communications; prioritize responses from legal teamPerform research using all available immigration research tools including government agency websitesMentor and delegate work to junior Paralegals and Project AssistantsAll other projects as assigned by an Attorney or the Paralegal Manager.Education and/or Experience:Required:BA/BS with strong academic credentialsProficient at Microsoft Office Applications and Adobe AcrobatFamiliarity with Formally and LawLogix, or other Immigration focused applicationsMinimum of 10+ years of Business Immigration experiencePreferred:Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved schoolProficient using technologyOther Skills and Abilities:The following will also be required of the successful candidate:Strong organizational skillsStrong attention to detailGood judgmentStrong interpersonal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAble to work harmoniously and effectively with othersAble to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretionAble to work under pressureAble to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities#LI-GK1The target salary range for this role is:$108,000 - $130,000 if located in Illinois.Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. Our compensation package also includes bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits program.
