Compensation: $45,200 - $56,500

Purpose

Assist the Attorney and/or other paralegals in preparing case files, including compiling application packets accurately by completing required documents and providing interpretation/translation for attorneys and/or clients when necessary. Perform outreach in the community.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  1. Analyze each applicant to determine eligibility for desired immigration benefits.
  2. Identify potential issues that may prevent the applicant from receiving benefits and propose solutions.
  3. Conduct intake and/or exit interviews to determine client eligibility for services.
  4. Assist clients in completing immigration applications (e.g., I-765, I-485, I-589, I-94, N-400).
  5. Compile application packets with accurate documentation, including certificates, photographs, and translations.
  6. Develop and maintain accurate case lists and manage case files.
  7. Stay updated on immigration laws and procedural changes.
  8. Act as interpreter or translator as needed.
  9. Review relevant newspaper articles and file for reference.
  10. Perform outreach during evenings and weekends as necessary.
  11. Work from community partner locations as assigned.
  12. Perform other related duties as requested.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with asylum seekers, refugees, asylees, or immigrant entrants.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole required.
Skills
  • Strong computer literacy, including word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong English writing skills.
Special Requirements

The position requires reference checks, criminal background checks, and motor vehicle background checks.
