Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General in Virginia seeks a Paralegal, Environment to support the Environmental Section’s attorneys. You will prepare, format, and proof documents, manage filings, and assist with litigation tasks.

Responsibilities include creating reports, maintaining filing systems, managing calendars, conducting legal research, and handling public records coordination. Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred; strong MS Office skills required.

Qualifications

  • Experience with preparation of litigation documents including briefs and tables of authorities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Typing proficiency and strong proofreading skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to meet deadlines in a deadline-based environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of environmental, federal, and state government terminology.

Responsibilities

Job Duties

This position provides a full range of legal and administrative support to the Environmental Section’s attorneys. These responsibilities will include: preparing, formatting, and proofing legal documents, correspondence and court filings; generating a weekly report; assembling, redacting, and compiling documents in PDF format; creating, maintaining and updating Excel spreadsheets; creating, organizing and updating filing paper and electronic filing systems; maintaining legal databases; legal research; managing client litigation; ensuring calendar control for attorneys; and public records coordination and preservation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants should be experienced with all Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with preparation of litigation documents (including briefs and tables of authorities), memoranda and correspondence as well as the preparation and updating of spreadsheets.
  • Workload demands typing proficiency and strong proof-reading skills.
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented and demonstrate the ability to work efficiently, juggle deadlines and collaborate effectively in deadline-based environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a team player in covering the work of others when the situation demands.
  • Knowledge of environmental, federal, and state government terminology is a plus, as is experience in working with Commonwealth agencies.
Additional Considerations

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or have completed a paralegal certificate program. Prior relevant work experience is preferred.
