Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Paralegal to support RECA claims, evaluating evidence to ensure compliance with statutory criteria and to assist the case team and claimants.

The role requires a paralegal certificate or active ABA‑accredited law school enrollment with at least one year of study, strong legal research skills using Lexis and Westlaw, and excellent written and oral communication. The position is hourly with H&W benefits under SCA.

Qualifications

• Must obtain MRPT credentials; US Citizenship required.
• Paralegal certificate or ABA‑accredited law school attendance with at least one year completed.
• At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience required.
• Basic legal research using Lexis/Westlaw required.
• Excellent written and oral communication; proficient with MS Office and databases.

Job description

The Paralegal role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and accurate handling of incoming materials supporting claims filed under RECA. The Paralegal will be evaluating evidence to make sure claims meet statutory criteria, as well as communicating with the case team and with claimants.

This position is responsible for following specific guidance and standard operation procedures to:

• Complete standardized forms.
• Process legal documents, reviewing them for correct form and timeliness, and annotating case files and status records to reflect receipt and due date for response or other actions required.
• Assist attorneys or paralegal specialists in compiling the case materials by retrieving, photocopying, and assembling documents, affidavits and legal memoranda.
• Establish, maintain, and close out case files or systems of legal records, annotating indices and status records, compiling workload and status reports, and locating and abstracting data from files and records.
• Conduct both technical and legal research.

Required

• Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
• Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
• Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required.
• Must have basic legal knowledge and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.
• Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
• Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer’s cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
