  • Provide paralegal assistance to the Office of General Counsel across numerous areas of law, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Plan, establish, and organize systems and processes for orderly operation and flow of materials in the office.
  • Maintain confidential legal files and filing/electronic systems with secure safekeeping of documents.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare reports for the General Counsel & VP, Public Policy and Government Affairs.

Job Profile Summary

Responsible for highly accurate, advanced and complex administrative support work for the Office of General Counsel. Develops and coordinates office systems, procedures and functions. Some clerical work is required. Exercises considerable amount of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times and must act with exceedingly high ethical standards and integrity. Minimum Education: Associate’s degree required. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered. Minimum Experience/Training: Eight years of increasingly responsible related experience in legal/administrative support. Understanding of contract negotiations or contract review experience.

Essential Functions
  • Daily -15%: Provides paralegal assistance to the Office of General Counsel with legal matters in numerous areas of law, including but not limited to, education, public sector, student matters, tax, copyright, immigration, FERPA, real estate, employment/labor, contractual, construction-related, administrative, litigation, subpoenas, public records requests, union negotiations, and the college compliance committee. Performs and promotes all activities in compliance federal and state laws.
  • Daily -10%: Participates directly in the work of the Office of General Counsel by planning, establishing, and organizing systems and processes that ensure the orderly operation of the office and a smooth flow of materials and information to and from the office with respect to matters including without limitation calendars, telephones, mail, travel arrangements, meeting arrangements, records management, budget and purchasing.
  • Daily- 10%: Maintains confidential legal files and legal department filing/electronic system. Ensures accurate and logical organization of files and confidentiality by maintaining a system for safekeeping of legal documents.
  • Monthly -10%: Conducts legal research including review and analysis by using internal and external libraries and resource databases. Assembles data and prepares reports on a routine or non-routine basis for use by the General Counsel & VP, Public Policy and Government Affairs.
  • Other, as Needed -10%: May provide routine paralegal assistance to outside counsel and/or other administrative agencies involved in college litigation, administrative, and/or compliance matters.
  • Other, as Needed - 5%: Represents the organization on internal committees, task forces, and other official meetings.
  • Other, as Needed -5%: Maintains professional growth and development through seminars and workshops to keep abreast of latest developments in college and law and in other related areas.
  • Daily -10%: As specifically directed by General Counsel & VP, Public Policy and Government Affairs, responds and conveys routine information regarding legal and/or contractual issues associated with existing or proposed operational situations as well as requests for information.
  • Daily -10%: Prepares and provides technical assistance in drafting and formatting various legal documents, contracts, and correspondence for review by the General Counsel & VP, Public Policy and Government Affairs pertaining to specific policies, operational practices, and/or transactions.
  • Daily -10%: Compiles, reviews, and organizes information for internal hearings, and meetings, as appropriate.
  • Other, as Needed -5%: Performs other related duties as assigned.
