Position Summary

A well-established conglomerate in Miami is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Lease Accounting Professional to oversee lease accounting and financial reporting for a large commercial real estate portfolio. This individual will bring extensive expertise in lease accounting (ASC 842), lease administration, and GAAP real estate accounting principles, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and compliance across a diverse portfolio.

The successful candidate will partner closely with Asset Management, Property Management, Legal, Leasing, and Facilities teams to manage lease accounting, reporting, recoveries, and compliance while serving as a subject matter expert on commercial lease accounting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive commercial real estate accounting experience.
• Experience supporting large commercial, retail, mixed-use, or industrial property portfolios.
• Strong understanding of commercial lease structures, including Triple Net (NNN) leases.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

Lease Accounting Expertise

Strong working knowledge of:

• ASC 842 lease accounting
• Lease classifications
• Lease modifications and reassessments
• Lease incentives and tenant improvement allowances
• Straight-line rent calculations
• Deferred rent accounting
• Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable
• Collections and lease payment administration (Lessee)

Key Responsibilities

Lease Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and review straight-line rent schedules and lease accounting entries.
• Ensure accurate accounting for lease modifications, renewals, terminations, and reassessments.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare reconciliations and financial analyses related to lease activity.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.

Lease Administration & Recoveries

• Partner with Lease Administration to ensure lease terms are accurately reflected within accounting systems.
• Review CAM, tax, insurance, and utility recoveries.
• Analyze annual CAM reconciliations and annual operating expense estimates.
• Ensure lease provisions are accurately reflected in billing and accounting records.
• Assist in resolving lease accounting and reconciliation discrepancies.

Technology

Preferred experience with:

• Yardi Voyager ,Corom, MRI ProLease, Visual Lease, FinQuery, Trullion, and Occupier.

Advanced proficiency in:

• Microsoft Excel
• Financial modeling and large data analysis
