Job summary

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP, an Am Law 200 firm, seeks an experienced paralegal for our Downtown Los Angeles office. This 100% in-office role requires teamwork, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of civil litigation paralegal experience, familiarity with discovery and trial preparation, and proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. ABA-approved paralegal credentials are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years paralegal experience in a law firm
• Civil litigation experience required
• Familiarity with research using web-based legal research services
• Experience working with paperless files; iManage experience a plus
• Must pass a background/drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate from ABA-approved program required

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with civil discovery and trial preparation
• Discovery and records management, including subpoenas and tracking responses
• Summarize medical and employment records; create medical chronologies; summarize discovery responses
• Review, summarize, and synthesize records in tort cases, including medical records and deposition transcripts
• Motion writing experience, e.g., oppositions to motions and discovery motions
• Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel; learn case management systems
• Organize and prioritize numerous tasks with minimal supervision and attention to detail
• Record billable time accurately

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP is a nationally recognized Am Law 200 law firm with over 500 attorneys servicing clients in 40 offices and 22 states seeking an experienced paralegal to join our Downtown Los Angeles office. Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with the preparation of a civil case throughout discovery and prepare for, attend, and assist at trial
• Discovery and records management, including preparation of subpoenas and tracking responses
• Ability to summarize medical and employment records, create medical chronologies, summarize discovery responses, prepare meet and confer correspondence
• Review, manage, summarize, and synthesize records and data of all kinds in various types of cases, with an emphasis on tort cases, including medical records and deposition transcripts
• Motion writing experience, such as oppositions to motions including discovery motions, motions to continue trial
• Proficient in software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and able to learn other programs including document and case management systems
• Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints with minimal supervision and exceptional attention to detail
• Maintaining accurate and promptly recording billable time

Education, Experience, and Skills

• 3+ years paralegal experience in a law firm
• Civil litigation experience required
• Familiarity with performing research tasks using web-based legal research services
• Experience working with paperless files. iManage experience a plus
• Must successfully pass a background/drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate from ABA-approved program required.

Actual base pay within the range will also be dependent on other factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
