Job summary

Michael Day Law Firm is seeking an experienced paralegal to join its Decatur team. This role supports senior litigation attorneys through case preparation, document management, and client communication to move files toward resolution.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in personal injury or civil litigation, a paralegal certificate or degree, and strong MS Office skills. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, with a focus on confidentiality and deadline-driven work.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of paralegal experience in personal injury or civil litigation, or similar.
  • Paralegal Certificate or Associate's/Bachelor's in Paralegal Studies, or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is considered an asset.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication with excellent interpersonal skills and judgment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Learn new systems quickly and use them effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with a track record of responsiveness and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with case preparation, including drafting pleadings, discovery responses, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Organize and maintain case files, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Request and follow up on medical records, bills, and other supporting documentation.
  • Communicate with clients to gather information and provide case updates.
  • Prepare demand packages.
  • Coordinate scheduling for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial prep.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategy.
  • Track deadlines, including statutes of limitations and court filing dates.
  • Liaise with insurance adjusters, medical providers, and opposing counsel as needed.
  • Support attorneys during trial preparation and proceedings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

How You'll Make a Difference

Reporting to the Senior Litigation Attorney, you'll support attorneys throughout the life of a personal injury case, handling case preparation, documentation, and client communication to keep files moving efficiently toward resolution. You'll play a key part in ensuring cases are well-organized and ready for litigation, mediation, or trial.
