Job summary

Mount Vernon School District No. 320 Jefferson Elementary in Mount Vernon, Washington is seeking a part-time Paraeducator for the Special Education Resource Room to support students with IEPs and transitions.

Job Description

BENEFIT INFORMATION

Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations, discipline history and attendance records, training and experience, references, and interview results. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience.

This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.

Special Education Resource Room & Transition Support

AFFILIATION: PSE I

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Principal, Executive Director and or Certificated Teacher

Work Year: 180 Days,1.5 hours/day

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform skilled support, confidential support to the classroom teacher as required.

Currently the hours needed are 8:00 - 9:00am and 3:00-3:30pm to support the academic and social emotional needs of students served with IEP's.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At a minimum, AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or
  • Ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (i.e., para-educator assessment).
  • Previous successful experience of working with high school age children; previous experience working with special needs students preferred.
  • Bilingual/bicultural preferred.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment plus computer skills with knowledge of Google applications and willingness to learn Skyward and other student data and IEP management systems.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Sensitivity towards children; ability to promote a child’s self concept.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students from various backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and students, including the monitoring and disciplining of student activities.
  • Must be able to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid First Aid certificate and CPR training required.
  • Ability to process student information in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and work hours specified under contract.
  • Must comply with all district policies and code of professional conduct.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • IEP Transition Support
    • Plan and anticipate transition IEPs on a monthly basis
    • Prepare assessments for transition IEP
    • Conduct transition IEP interview
    • Work with Transition Specialist and IEP manager to determine appropriate student assessments; assist with IEP assessments
    • Distribution transition information to IEP manager
  • Post School Report
    • Prior to graduation, assist in gathering contact information from students
    • Assist in follow-up calls to special education students who left the high school in the prior year (June-November); enter information online working to achieve an 80% or better response rate
    • Stay current with webinars and other information provided by the Center for Change in Transition Mount Vernon School District No. 320 8/2021 Page 2 Services
  • In cooperation with the high school special education secretary, assist in preparing documentation of invitation information sheets for IEP and re-evaluation meetings, assist with the preparation of prior written notices for IEP and may assist in scheduling appointments as well as create/mail IEP invitations.
  • Assist with IEP online student, evaluations and program documentation.
  • Perform Such other duties as may be assigned.

    • Ability to perform these operations using units of United States currency, weight measurement and volume.

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, staff and students. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.
