Job summary

Applitrack is seeking a PARAEDUCATOR - RESOURCE to assist in small group and individual pupil instruction under the supervision of a special education teacher. The role includes supporting instructional activities, maintaining discipline, and providing supervision during transitions and breaks.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with two years of college credit or an associate's degree preferred, plus the ability to work with both special education and regular students.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.
  • Ability to write simple notes and communicate with staff.
  • Ability to assist in instruction under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist teacher with classroom activities and materials prep.
  • Escort students between rooms and supervise during recess and lunch.
  • Handle toileting of students as needed.
  • Support implementation of IEPs.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.

POSITION TITLE: PARAEDUCATOR - RESOURCE
Salary

Range $22.12 - $25.18 (Per contractual agreement BPS Contracts)

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Summary

Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
  • Assist teacher with instructional activities.
  • Escort students from room to room.
  • Toileting students is sometimes required.
  • Involves work with both special education and regular students.
  • Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
  • Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
  • Assist students with classroom assignments.
  • Copy materials for instructional purposes.
  • Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
  • Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
  • May require supporting with toileting of students
  • PMT required
Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Computer Skills
  • Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

This employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus. The paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and well being of students in his/her charge
