Edmonds School District is seeking a Paraeducator IB for 1:1 intensive support in specialized classrooms. You will assist with instructional support, prepare materials, track student progress and help implement behavior plans for students with various disabilities.

The role is non-continuing for the 2026-2027 school year, with a 4-hour daily shift and a non-exempt status. Compensation is hourly and follows the district schedule.

Qualifications

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher.
  • Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator in a registered program.
  • Passed PESB approved assessments: Pearson Paraprofessional or Master Teacher Paraeducator Online Training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with instructional support and supervision in various K-12 learning environments.
  • Prepare educational materials, monitor academic progress and collect student data.
  • Implement behavior plans and support students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with students and staff as part of intensive learning support teams.

Education

Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university

The Paraeducator IB works collaboratively with students/staff in an intensive learning support classroom, special education classrooms or other K-12 learning environments. This position assists with a variety of instructional support and supervision duties of students who have learning, communication, physical, behavioral, or emotional disabilities. Additionally, this position prepares educational materials, monitors academic progress, collects student data, and implements behavior plans. (Assigned to IS, ISES, ILS, and DK.)
Shift Details: 4.0 hours a day; 181day calendar
Non-Continuing Position: This position is non-continuing for the 2026-2027school year only. Typically, non-continuing assignments fill a variety of temporary vacancies to help the school district meet a short-term work demand. This work assignment expires on the end date of employment and there is no reasonable assurance for work after the end date. An employee's total work hours and the designated beginning and ending times may vary.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hourly Rate: $32.76 to $36.67(hourly)(2026-27 Classified Support Staff Salary Schedule)

Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • In addition, a paraeducator must meet one of the following:
  • 1. Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • 2. Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • 3. Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  • 4. Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
  • Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
Licenses/Special Requirements (Must maintain certification as a condition of employment):
  • Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications (or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment)
  • Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment).
  • Special Education Subject Matter Certificate (Or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment).
  • Maintain training and use of proper physical transfer techniques, including use of the Hoyer lift.

* * Successful candidates are required to complete mandatory, in-person training/orientation prior to their official start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
  • Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities and/or behavior challenges or social/emotional issues.
  • Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.

The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services. Our benefits are provided to eligible positions through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year.

Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on a variety of factors.
