Job summary

Illinois School District U-46 is seeking a Paraeducator Early Learners to support the classroom environment and student needs in ALL Early Learner Classrooms. The role reports to the Building Principal and assigned teacher and is bound by district policies.

The position is 10 months with a starting rate of $23.38/hr, requiring a Paraprofessional Educator License or higher and an associates degree or equivalent. Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred for some assignments.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher / 60 semester hours or GED with Para Pro exam or Work Keys.

Responsibilities

• Implement individual or small group instruction under direct supervision of a certified teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
• Familiarize self with goals and objectives for individual students in the classroom.
• Facilitate implementation of behavioral programs and procedures.
• Document student behavior and learning as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with loading/unloading student buses during assigned hours.
• Escort students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Lift, transfer, position, toileting, etc.
• Attend staff meetings and development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Function / Position Summary

To support the early learner program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the needs of the students. Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.

Education

• Paraprofessional Educator License, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
• Minimum education requirement for a Paraprofessional Educator License is: associates degree or higher, completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a high school diploma or GED with a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
• Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual Spanish/English.

Experience / Knowledge

• Effective communication skills.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lift, transfer, position, toileting etc. (for special skills positions only).
• Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment

• This is a 10-month position.
• Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable.
• The starting rate for this position is $23.38/hr.
