Job summary

The Illinois School District U-46 invites applications for a Paraeducator – Early Learners in the Early Learners classrooms. This 10-month position runs 7 hours per day and 195 calendar days per year, with salary details set by the Board of Education collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional Educator License is required.
• Associate degree or higher, or 60 semester hours of college coursework, or a high school diploma or GED with a passing ETS Para Pro exam or two Work Keys exams.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred.

• Implement individual or small group instruction under the direction and/or supervision of a certified teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials.
• Familiarize self with goals and objectives for individual students in the classroom.
• Facilitate implementation of behavioral programs and procedures.
• Document student behavior and learning as directed by the teacher.
• Help in loading and unloading student buses during assigned work hours.
• Escort students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Function / Position Summary

To support the early learner program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the needs of the students. Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and school. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.

Education

• Paraprofessional Educator License, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
• Minimum education requirement for a Paraprofessional Educator License is: associates degree or higher, completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a high school diploma or GED with a passing score on the ETSPara Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.

Experience / Knowledge

• Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lift, transfer, position, toileting etc. (for special skills positions only).
• Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment

• This is a 10-month position; 7hours per day.

• Minimum $23.38 per hour per union agreement.
