Job summary

Centro Escolar University in Elgin, IL is seeking a Para Educator to support teachers by delivering instructional lessons under supervision and assisting with IEP-related activities. You will document behavior, collaborate on materials, and help students with mobility and daily routines as needed.

The role requires appropriate licensure (Para Educator) and at least 60 college hours or equivalent exams; Spanish/English bilingual ability is preferred and effective communication is essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher.
• Familiarize with goals and objectives for mainstream and IEP students in the classroom.
• Facilitate implementation of functional community-based curriculum as assigned.
• Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures.
• Document student behavior as directed by the teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher to prepare and maintain materials.
• Escort students within the building as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Assist with any related activity specific to the students' IEP in cooperation with the classroom teacher.
• Perform lifting, transferring, positioning, toileting, and other special skills as required.
• Provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student-para interactions.
• Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

The company is looking for candidates with:

• Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator, or Provisional Educator License.
• Completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
• Bilingual Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred; required for certain assignments.
• Effective communication skills.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

• 10-month position with 6.75 hours per day.
• Minimum hourly wage of $22.48 per union agreement.
• Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and collective bargaining agreement.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, transfer, position, and toilet students as required for special skills positions.
• Excellent physical agility and quick response time.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
