The City of Hawaiian Gardens is seeking a full-time paratransit driver to transport seniors and the disabled to appointments, schools, and activities. You will operate a 20-passenger van, assist passengers on and off the vehicle, and follow schedules with safety as a priority.
Qualifications include a valid California driver’s license (Class B preferred), CPR/First Aid certificates, and the ability to read and write English. Prior public transportation driving experience is a plus.
Work schedule may vary depending on departmental needs. Tentative workdays will be Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday.

FLSA: Non-exempt.
Under supervision, drives a regular paratransit route and excursions as assigned. Transports senior citizens, and the disabled to and from doctor’s appointments, schools, recreation activities and daily living support needs. These paratransit drivers drive a small 20 passenger vehicle, not a large city bus. Passengers are mainly Seniors, the handicapped and some school children. The vehicles do not have air brakes.This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Operates a two-way radio, passenger van, and wheelchair access lift. Follows plans and schedules for excursions. Inspect vehicles including oil and other fluids. Keeps inspection records. Performs minor maintenance of equipment mainly inside the vehicle. Keeps the vehicle clean and neat. Responds to dispatches to fulfill transportation requests. May help train other drivers. May answer the phone or occasionally assist with dispatching. Prepares simple records and reports. Serves the public in a safe and courteous manner. Drives a route as assigned. Assists the disabled on and off the vehicle. Performs related duties as assigned.Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be: Able to read and write sufficient English to perform the job. High School graduate preferred. Some prior experience driving a public transportation vehicle preferred. Valid State of California driver’s license. CA Class B vehicle operator’s license. CPR and first aid certificates. Medical Certificate.
