Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Roanoke Rapids, NC, is seeking an Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) to support the Paper Mill Superintendent and maintenance teams, ensuring asset reliability and uptime.

You will manage safety work orders, coordinate shutdowns, screen and approve work orders, and act as a technical resource for solving chronic failures. A bachelor's degree and 3–5+ years manufacturing experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
• 3–5+ years manufacturing experience (pulp & paper strongly preferred).
• Prior leadership or front‑line supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Paper Machines and Process.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, planning, and reliability practices.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manages the department safety work order backlog.
• Coordinates scheduled shutdowns and unscheduled outages.
• Keeps the “planned work order” backlog according to guidelines; uses backlog to schedule daily and weekly work lists.
• Prioritizes and approves break-in or emergency work.
• Prioritizes work order backlog.
• Schedules on‑run backlog.
• Screens and approves all work orders for asset area; ensures quality of all work orders (coding accuracy, symptoms, accurately described).
• Serves as project originator for maintenance capital in asset area, including documentation.
• Being a technical resource for solving chronic and repeat failures.
• Planning the installation and startup of new equipment to minimize upset of normal operations.
• Works with training resources to maintain detailed, structured on‑the‑job training manuals for department tasks and jobs.
• Support and foster safety and environmental compliance.

Paper Mill Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC)

The Opportunity

The Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) role provides support to the Department Superintendent, Production Supervisors and Maintenance. Ensures continuity of the operating assets, achieving department objectives, and facilitating sound business decisions. The OMC is responsible for the maintenance coordination required to maintain and ensure operating reliability. The OMC for the paper department will report to the Paper Mill Superintendent.

• Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, planning, and reliability practices
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills
