Job summary

Smurfit Westrock, a leader in sustainable packaging, seeks a Paper Mill Manager to oversee paper mill operations, safety, quality, maintenance and environmental compliance for multiple paper machines and related warehousing. You will coordinate across kraft, OCC and containerboard production to align with strategic goals and ensure high uptime and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in related field (Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 15+ years paper mill operating/supervision experience.
• Commitment to safety and environment with the ability to lead by example.
• Ability to foster positive labor relations in a union organization.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate change.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement policies and procedures for safety and operating improvements.
• Lead department to educate on safety guidelines and measures.
• Coordinate with other teams to maximize machine uptime and reliability.
• Collaborate with leadership to solve operating issues and implement cost-effective solutions.
• Provide guidance on capital investments for projects.
• Coordinate with sales/marketing on production of new paper grades.
• Lead cross-functional teams to improve cost, quality, energy use, and other initiatives.
• Manage shutdown plans to meet production and environmental goals.
• Oversee maintenance planning and budget for the department.
• Participate in Mill Management Leadership Team and Core Leadership Team.
