Job summary

GCyber is seeking a Palo Alto Engineer in the Arlington, VA area to support a high-profile DISA customer. You will provide expert guidance on managing Palo Alto devices, identify misconfigurations, and optimize firewall and load balancer rules for improved security and performance.

The role requires DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance, a BA/BS with 8+ years IT experience, and 5+ years in Cisco and/or Palo Alto Firewall engineering/ops. DoD 8570 IAT II certification is required.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• BA/BS and 8+ years of IT experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Cisco and/or Palo Alto Firewall experience in engineering and operations/maintenance roles.
• DoD 8570 IAT II certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC).
• Strong knowledge of Palo Alto technologies and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Identify and remediate misconfigurations and security gaps.
• Optimize firewall rule-sets and load balancer rules for performance and security.
• Perform bi-monthly evaluations of firewalls and provide actionable recommendations.
• Track device performance and provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex network issues.
• Collaborate with customer points of contact and align on goals and architectural direction, particularly with Palo Alto Networks technologies.

As the Palo Alto Engineer, you will provide expert advice and direction regarding the manager and operation of Palo Alto devices. As a Palo Alto Engineer, you will:

• Identify and remediate misconfigurations, security gaps, and conflicting rules; optimize firewall and load balancer rule-sets to enhance performance and security posture.
• Perform bi-monthly evaluations of firewalls and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.
• Track device performance and traffic utilization; provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex network issues.
• Collaborate with customer points of contact and participate in meetings to align on goals and architectural direction, particularly with Palo Alto Networks technologies.
• Follow DoD STIGs, DISA orders, and JSIG guidelines to maintain regulatory compliance. Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance
• BA/BS and 8+ years of IT experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• 5+ years of hands-on Cisco and/or Palo Alto Firewall experience in both engineering and operations and maintenance roles.
