Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System seeks a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced health care in collaboration with medical staff. The role requires MS degree in NP, current NP and RN licenses, and BLS certification. DEA/CDS eligibility and a willingness to participate in patient education are preferred.

The NPs will perform exams, orders tests, design treatment plans, and communicate with the care team to ensure quality outcomes while maintaining patient privacy and safety.

Qualifications

• Master of Science degree with completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required.
• Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner required.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
• Current BLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required.
• DEA and CDS eligible.
• Experience preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up and health education appropriate for the patient’s age and situation.
• Obtains patient histories and develops patient care charges, ensuring completeness and accuracy of documentation.
• Orders, obtains and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests.
• Designs, orders and documents appropriate treatment plans including prescriptions based on review of HPI and results.
• Communicates plan of care with physicians, primary care provider, referring provider, nursing staff and case manager.
• Educates patients and families about plan of care, disease processes, and medication regimens.
• Maintains patient safety and privacy; documents findings in the medical record.
