The Role

Painter Apprentices will complete a 6,000-hour program consisting of on-the-job training and classroom studies designed to expose them to various skills aboard naval vessels. Responsibilities include blasting, spraying, brush painting, and other coating processes within the marine shipbuilding industry. Painter Apprentices must operate various equipment and gauges related to blasting and spraying.

Must Have
  • Must be a current Ingalls Shipbuilding employee.
  • High school diploma or GED completion required.
  • Provide at intake interview:
    • Original high school or G.E.D. transcripts (diplomas are not accepted)
    • College or vocational transcripts or certificates
    • Driver's license or state ID
    • Original Social Security Card or proof of application
    • Original Birth Certificate
    • DD214 if former military
