Job summary

Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc. is seeking a Night Shift Painter to prepare, mix and apply paints on various surfaces using airless and conventional spray methods. The role also supports inventory management to keep supplies stocked for production.

The position requires 1+ years in metal painting, reading a tape measure, and adherence to PPE and safety procedures. Outdoor work and shift flexibility are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 1+ years experience in metal painting in a production/manufacturing setting
• Attention to detail and accuracy in paint mixing and application
• Ability to read and use a tape measure for surface measurements
• Must be able to work with respirators and PPE during painting
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

Responsibilities

• Prepare and mix paints per specs, ensuring correct color and consistency
• Apply paint using airless and conventional spray methods for a smooth finish
• Perform metal finishing to prep surfaces for painting
• Monitor inventory of paints and supplies and reorder as needed
• Measure paint thickness to meet quality standards

Description

Main Purpose:

The Painter is responsible for preparing, mixing and applying paints to various surfaces using airless and conventional spray methods. The Painter will also assist with inventory management, ensuring that supplies are well stocked and available for production needs. This position will be working night shift.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare and mix paints according to specifications, ensuring the correct color, texture and consistency
• Apply paint to surfaces using airless and conventional spray methods, ensuring a smooth, even and high-quality finish
• Perform metal finishing tasks to ensure the surfaces are properly prepared for painting
• Conduct regular inventory checks on paints, supplies and materials and requisition additional supplies as needed to avoid production delays
• Accurately measure and check paint thickness to meet quality and industry standards
• Understand and adhere to all operating and safety procedures within the paint department
• Provide assistance to other team members within the paint department as required, contributing to the smooth flow of operations
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Environmental Conditions:

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet and dry conditions, dust, mud etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
