Job summary

Spartan Emergency Response in the U.S. is seeking a Paint Prep associate to prepare cabs and parts for painting on Spartan emergency vehicles. The role includes sanding, washing, masking, and following detailed operator instructions while maintaining a clean, safe work area.

Reading blueprints, understanding production flow, and supporting cross-functional teams are essential. Prior body-and-paint experience is preferred; PPE and rotation across areas may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cabs and parts for painting in primer and final coats.
  • Sand, wash, and mask cabs to achieve defined tones per vehicle.
  • Read and follow operator instructions, drawings and blueprints.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and support production flow.
  • Initiate process improvements and support 5S in the area.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.

The Paint Prep position is responsible for the preparation of cabs and parts prior to painting for Spartan’s emergency response cabs and bodies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Sanding of cabs in primer state as well as aluminum state
  • Washing of cabs parts before and after primer
  • Masking of cabs to create several tones per vehicle
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions, installation drawings, blueprints, etcetera, as required by a particular area
  • Understand, and be able to articulate, the production flow of an assigned product line or area
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

    • Tolerate very high heat temperatures
    • Be exposed to high dust & chemicals
    • Work overtime on short notice
  • Be willing to:
    • Wear PPE respirators for extended amount of time
    • Learn and rotate within all areas pertaining to this job description
    • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
    • Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (example: AS/400)
