Job summary

AutoNation is seeking a Paint Technician Trainee to support the Paint Team Lead in preparing surfaces, masking, sanding, priming, and applying coatings to vehicle parts. You’ll review work with the painter, follow safety rules, and gain OEM and ICAR knowledge as you progress.

Training is provided; this role offers clear advancement paths, benefits, and the chance to work across a nationwide network of AutoNation locations.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Interest to become certified (ICAR/OEM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicles and parts for painting under guidance from Paint Team Lead.
  • Mask parts not to be painted or coated.
  • Sand and prime vehicles and parts as needed.
  • Remove rust and grease from work surfaces.
  • Mix paints and chemicals per manufacturer directions/specifications.
  • Review all work with painter and ensure quality standards.
  • Follow federal, state and local regulations in Collision Center operations.

What We’re Looking For

What are the daily job responsibilities?
  • Preparing vehicles and parts for painting, with direction from Paint Team Lead.
  • Masking parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Sanding and priming vehicles and parts as appropriate.
  • Removing rust and grease from work surfaces.
  • Mixing all paint and chemicals according to manufacturer directions/specifications.
  • Review all work with painter.
  • Understanding and following federal, state, and local regulations that affect Collision Center operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA guidelines, etc.
  • Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.
  • What are the requirements for the Paint Technician Trainee?
  • ICAR certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
  • OEM certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
  • Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license with an acceptable, safe driving record.
  • Ability to operate an automobile.
