General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. in North Kingstown, RI, is seeking a Painter to join our team at the Quonset Point facility. The role focuses on hull preservation, coating applications, and corrosion protection, with paid training and growth opportunities for career development.

You will interpret blueprints and shipyard procedures, work with various painting tools, and ensure high-quality coatings. The job requires safety awareness, the ability to work at heights, and owning basic hand

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or a minimum of 2 years related technical experience.
• Available to work all shifts.
• Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required.
• Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain respiratory qualifications.
• Preferred: Vocational, technical or apprenticeship programs; painting experience in marine/industrial trades; ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints to prevent corrosion and protect against marine life.
• Interpreting blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures.
• Surface preparation and painting functions, including solvent washing, sanding and grit blasting.
• Measure and document paint thicknesses to maintain a high level of quality.
• Operate shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brushes, rollers, airless spray and other tools.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life
• Interpreting blueprints, technical manuals and shipyard procedures
• Surface preparation and painting functions, which involves solvent washing, sanding and/or grit blasting
• Measure and document paint thicknesses in order to maintain a high level of quality
• Using various shop equipment including table saws, drill presses, routers, sandblast equipment, brush, roller, airless spray and other specialized equipment and air and electric hand held tools

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

Preferred:

• Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
• Painting experience in at least one of the following areas; Marine Industry, Industrial, residential, autobody or relevant trade experience and/or training
• Mold makers, carpentry and masonry experience
• Experience applying coatings via brush, roller, conventional sprayers & airless sprayers
• Knowledge and use of Graco or equivalent painting tools & equipment
• NACE certification
• Ability to read blueprints and work with basic hand and power tools
• Military experience
