Job description

JOB SUMMARY: As an Abbey Resort associate, you will have the opportunity to be part of an incredible team at an all-service resort situated on the beautiful shores of Geneva Lake. BASIC FUNCTION: A Painter prepares walls and other surfaces for painting by using sandpaper, scraping, and removing old paint. They make on-site preparations for building scaffolding and covering fixtures, filling cracks and holes with appropriate materials like plaster. A Carpenter specializes in working with wood to construct, install, and repair structures and objects. Carpenters are highly trained in their craft, possessing a deep understanding of woodworking techniques and principles. They are adept at creating accurate measurements and using a wide array of tools and machinery to shape and join wood components.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar job in the hospitality industry is preferred.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Abilities to remove, construct, repair, and refinish carpentry items (e.g., ceilings, walls, floors, furniture).
  • Ability to hang wallpaper.
  • Ability to repair and paint drywall and other surfaces using rollers, brushes, and spray guns.
  • Ability to install tiles and grout.
  • Ability to refinish woodwork requiring staining, varnishing, and lacquering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Resolve guest problems and handle all guest requests.
  • Identify problems, initiate work orders, accomplish assigned work orders, and perform necessary repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and maintain logs in an organized manner.
  • Construct furniture.
  • Repair and refinish wood and drywall surfaces.
  • Identify and match paint and stain colors.
  • Purchase materials and maintain inventory.
  • Paint and re-paint surfaces.
  • Hang wallpaper.
  • Install tiles and grout.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interact effectively with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Work hours may vary based on business needs, including holidays, weekends, various shifts, overtime, or reduced hours.

ENVIRONMENT: Works in all areas of the property, both indoor and outdoor, possibly in inclement weather. Must be able to work at various heights on ladders, roofs, etc.
