Job summary

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing seeks a Painter to apply decorative and protective coatings to wood, furniture, and structural surfaces. You will use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve quality finishes on a variety of items and devices.

The role requires either a 4-year painting apprenticeship or 4 years of journeyman experience, with proof via references or documentation. You must perform tasks with minimal supervision.

Job description

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Painters, Masonry, and Insulators Section. As a Painter, you will use brushes, rollers, and/or spray equipment to paint various structures, manufacturing equipment, and finishes to wooden furniture, wall systems, cabinets, ornate trim, doors, and floors to provide a decorative as well as protective coating.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

This position requires a 4-year apprenticeship in painting OR 4 years of practical experience in the trade working with journeyman painters. Training must be sufficient in content and progressive acquirement of trade skills to be the substantial equivalent of a completed apprenticeship. Applicants must provide proof of completion of a 4-year apprenticeship or have 4 years of documented experience working with journeyman painters. Applicants qualifying with 4 years of experience must provide references at time of interview to verify journeyman status.

I have the ability to perform common Painter duties. I can paint, decorate, and refinish interior and exterior surfaces that may require a protective or decorative coating. I can evaluate surface conditions and select a preparation technique consistent with the type and condition, the coating material to be applied, and the exposure and expected condition of use. I can perform such tasks without more than normal supervision.
