Job summary

The Budd Group in Hampton, VA is seeking a skilled painter to support residential and commercial painting tasks. The role requires knowledge of painting materials, surface preparation, and the ability to read blueprints and work orders.

You will prepare surfaces, protect surroundings, and apply finishes across projects, with potential for evening and weekend shifts. Two to four years of painting experience and a high school diploma or equivalent are required; apprenticeship is a plus.

PAY RATE: $18


HOURS & DAYS: M-F , 8-5PM


LOCATION: HAMPTON, VA


OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

The Painter possesses the ability to assist in a variety of skills encompassing most of the construction trades; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and material are available at job site. Possess the ability to deal tactfully, effectively and courteously with co-workers, management and our customers.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them


Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques


Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.)


Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary


Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.


Protect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job, including carpets, cabinetry, outlet covers, lighting fixtures and landscaping


Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting.


Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor used.


Able and willing to work independently and as a team member


Workdays and schedules are generally routine, however are subject to change. Be prepared/available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.


POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of apprenticeship.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license.

EXPERIENCE: Requires two to four years’ residential or commercial painting experience.

SKILLS: Conscientious with great attention to detail. Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift / move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. The noise level is usually moderate.
