JOB TITLE: Painter

REPORTS TO: Chief Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

This hourly position is responsible for preparing, painting, finishing, and maintaining interior and exterior surfaces throughout the Hotel to ensure guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and building finishes are clean, attractive, safe, and well maintained.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, priming, and making minor surface repairs as needed.
• Paint guest rooms, corridors, public areas, offices, back-of-house areas, doors, trim, walls, ceilings, and other hotel surfaces as assigned.
• Apply paint, stain, varnish, sealers, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and other appropriate painting tools and equipment.
• Identify and match paint colors and finishes and maintain consistency with hotel standards and existing surfaces.
• Use ladders or lifts as required to complete painting assignments, including work at elevated heights in accordance with safety requirements.
• Perform routine touch-up painting and cosmetic repairs in hotel guest rooms and public areas.
• Complete scheduled painting projects and respond to painting and finish-related work orders in a timely manner.
• Repair minor drywall damage, holes, cracks, and other surface imperfections prior to painting.
• Protect furniture, flooring, fixtures, equipment, and guest areas from paint, dust, and debris while work is being performed.
• Read and follow work orders, product labels, safety instructions, and manufacturer directions for paints, coatings, and related materials.
• Inspect completed work for proper coverage, finish, color consistency, and overall quality; correct deficiencies as needed.
• Maintain painted surfaces throughout the hotel through regular inspection, touch-up, and preventive care.
• Assist with minor wall covering, caulking, patching, and related finish work as assigned.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools and painting equipment safely and properly in performing duties.
• Report damaged surfaces, water intrusion, structural concerns, defective materials, and any unusual conditions to proper supervision.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
• Properly clean, store, and maintain brushes, rollers, sprayers, tools, and other painting equipment.
• Safely handle, label, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, coatings, and related materials in accordance with applicable safety procedures.
• Receive and organize painting supplies and materials as needed.
• Maintain an appropriate inventory of paint, supplies, and materials and notify supervision when additional materials are needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, drywall patching, caulking, color matching, and application of common paints and finishes used in a hotel environment.
• Basic knowledge of proper use, care, and maintenance of painting tools, equipment, and materials.
• Skill in the use of a variety of painting and skilled trade tools (including both hand and electric tools).
• Basic English language communication and mathematical skills to communicate with coworkers, fully comprehend job assignments and perform accurate, simple arithmetic functions.
• Basic mathematical skills and considerable skill in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.
• Ability to listen effectively and to speak English clearly to communicate with customers and team members and prepare written complex reports.
• Must have coordinating skills as pertains to determining time, place and sequence of operations or action.
• Ability to analyze information and make effective judgments.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Previous commercial, residential, or hospitality painting experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant painting experience.
• Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to move and work throughout the hotel for the duration of shift.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping and kneeling.
• Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 30 feet for
• extended periods of time, with the ability to extend arms, often overhead.
• Must have good painting and surface preparation ability and be willing to learn and take direction from supervisors and trade mechanics.
• Must be able to work in hot, cold and wet conditions and can stoop, kneel, crawl and climb on all types of surfaces.
• This position requires the lifting of tools, equipment or materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
• Grasping, lifting and holding tools and having good finger dexterity.
• While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The team member must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
