Job summary

North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN, seeks a full-time Painter to maintain and refresh interior walls and exterior surfaces across campus. The role supports the Facilities team, performing painting, repairs, and preparation for projects.

The ideal candidate has an apprenticeship or equivalent years of painting experience, with knowledge of painting practices, shop math, and ability to interpret plans. Monday–Friday work hours and a strong safety mindset are required.

Qualifications

  • Approved apprenticeship (6000 hours) in painting; OR Three (3) years of experience as a painter, including commercial or residential work preparing and painting a variety of surfaces; OR One (1) year of school from a vocational-technical or trade school painting program plus two years of experience as a painter, as described above.
  • Knowledge of standard painting practices, techniques, materials and tools sufficient to requisition and select supplies and materials and apply them to complete painting and decorating projects.
  • Knowledge of shop math sufficient to estimate labor and material costs for planned projects; skill in using hand tools, such as brushes, rollers, scrapers and power equipment such as spray guns, sanders, etc. sufficient to prepare, cover and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of state buildings, structures, woodwork, furniture, etc.

  • Support the Assistant Facilities Director in daily painting tasks and project work.

Job Description: This position supports the Assistant Facilities Director by maintaining, repairing, and painting all interior walls and exterior surfaces.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Knowledge of shop math sufficient to estimate labor and material costs for planned projects; skill in using hand tools, such as brushes, rollers, scrapers and power equipment such as spray guns, sanders, etc. sufficient to prepare, cover and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of state buildings, structures, woodwork, furniture, etc.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (e.g., lifting, standing, sitting, pulling)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of health standards and OSHA regulations that pertain to chemical usage.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and have advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain records for painting inventory.
