Job summary

AutoNation, America's leading automotive retailer, is seeking a Paint Technician Trainee to assist the Paint Team Lead in preparing surfaces and applying coatings across vehicle parts. You’ll develop skills through hands-on practice, masking, sanding, priming and mixing paints with guidance from senior technicians, while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

This role offers paid training, OEM certification support, and a potential path from Paint Technician Trainee to leadership roles

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicles and parts for painting under guidance from Paint Team Lead.
  • Mask parts not to be painted.
  • Sand and prime vehicles and parts.
  • Remove rust and grease from surfaces.
  • Mix paint and chemicals per manufacturer directions.
  • Review work with painter.
  • Follow regulations (hazardous waste, OSHA, etc.).
  • Gain product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.

What We’re Looking For
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A passion for cars and customer service
What are the daily job responsibilities?
  • Preparing vehicles and parts for painting, with direction from Paint Team Lead.
  • Masking parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Sanding and priming vehicles and parts as appropriate.
  • Removing rust and grease from work surfaces.
  • Mixing all paint and chemicals according to manufacturer directions/specifications.
  • Review all work with painter.
  • Understanding and following federal, state, and local regulations that affect Collision Center operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA guidelines, etc.
  • Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.
  • What are the requirements for the Paint Technician Trainee?
  • ICAR certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
  • OEM certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
  • Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license with an acceptable, safe driving record.
  • Ability to operate an automobile.
