Job summary

AutoNation is seeking a Paint Technician to expertly prepare surfaces, tint colors, and apply finishes to vehicles with precision. The role emphasizes quality craftsmanship, safety, and adherence to procedures.

Training and OEM certification support accompany opportunities for career growth across the nationwide AutoNation footprint. Ideal candidates bring at least two years of automotive experience, a valid in-state license, and a passion for cars and customer service.

Qualifications

  • 2 years automotive experience minimum.
  • ICAR certification preferred or willingness to pursue.
  • OEM certification preferred or willingness to pursue.
  • Valid in-state driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assess damaged areas and prepare them for painting, removing rust/grease and masking non-painted parts.
  • Prepare color tint to match or blend the paint color.
  • Paint vehicles with efficient, high-quality workmanship using sprayer or brush.
  • Follow factory/dealership procedures when performing warranty work.
  • Operate Collision Center equipment safely, using PPE per safety standards.
  • Inspect craftsmanship quality, note runs, sags, or unpainted areas.
  • Mix paints and chemicals per manufacturer directions.
  • Adhere to regulations affecting Collision Center operations (hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, etc.).
  • Gain product knowledge to provide high-quality repairs.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Valid driver’s license

What are the daily job responsibilities?
  • Assessing and analyzing damaged areas and preparing them for painting, including removing rust and grease, and masking parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Preparing the color tint to match or blend the paint color.
  • Painting vehicles with a high level of efficiency and quality, using a sprayer or brush as appropriate.
  • Adheres to factory and dealership procedures when performing warranty work.
  • Operating all equipment in the Collision Center in a safe and productive manner, following AutoNation’s Safety Standards for the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., respirator, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection) while working on the production floor.
  • Inspecting quality of craftsmanship, noting any runs, sags, or unpainted areas.
  • Mixing all paint and chemicals according to manufacturer directions/specifications.
  • Understanding and following federal, state, and local regulations that affect Collision Center operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA guidelines, etc.
  • Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high-quality repairs.
What are the requirements for the Paint Technician?
  • ICAR certification (preferred) or interest in becoming certified.
  • OEM certification (preferred) or interest in becoming certified.
  • At least two years’ automotive experience.
  • Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license with an acceptable, safe driving record.
  • Ability to operate an automobile.
