Job summary

Bombardier Transportation GmbH in Wichita is seeking an experienced aircraft paint technician to prep and apply coatings on aircraft surfaces. You will read engineering drawings to identify tasks and ensure proper surface preparation before painting.

Responsibilities include masking, stripping, and protecting areas, as well as documentation per IPM. The role supports production, flight test, and related areas, with emphasis on safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience with preparation and painting aircraft or equivalent (preferred).
  • Read engineering drawings to identify tasks for painting aircraft surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to General Work Requirements.
  • Read drawings to identify tasks for paint prep.
  • Apply safety absorbent to floor and spray stripper to remove paint.
  • Mask/unmask areas to protect windows and surfaces.
  • Remove stripper and contaminants; rinse with water/solvents.
  • Sand, grind, and buff surfaces; apply putty and sealers.
  • Apply Alodine to surfaces; perform touch-ups as needed.
  • Document work per Inspection Procedures Manual (IPM).
  • Support production, flight test, and other areas as required.
  • Assist other employees in duties within qualification areas.

What are your contributions to the team?
  • You have experience with preparation and painting aircraft or equivalent (preferred).
How to thrive in this role?
  • Adhere to General Work Requirements
  • Read engineering drawings to identify the tasks to be performed in preparation for the application of chemicals and paint to aircraft surface.
  • Apply safety absorbent to hangar floor and spray aircraft surface with stripper to remove all paint.
  • Assist with moving aircraft to appropriate bay.
  • Mask, unmask, and re-mask appropriate areas of aircraft surface to ensure complete protection of windows and other areas susceptible to damage.
  • Remove stripper, excess paint, and/or contaminants using water, solvents, air blower, and/or brushes.
  • Sand, grind, and buff polished areas of aircraft surface, apply putty to body dents, and replace sealer in preparation for the application of primer and paint.
  • Apply Alodine to aircraft surface using spray equipment.
  • Perform touch-up work as required.
  • Document work performed per Inspection Procedures Manual (IPM)
  • Perform above tasks in support of production, flight test, and other outside areas as required.
  • Assist other employees in the performance of their duties within area(s) of qualification.
